Adult Education Brunch
3000 Years of Talking Jewish with Rabbi Andrew Ergas
Sunday, March 18, 12:00pm
Join us for brunch at Temple Beth Abraham and enjoy hearing Rabbi Andrew Ergas speak about the evolution and role of Jewish languages.
Enjoy bagels, cream cheese, fruits and pastries, a great talk, and interesting conversation!
Rita Mae Brown stated that "Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going." This interactive presentation will explore the language journey of the Jewish people and ways that historical languages, such as Hebrew and Aramaic, interacted with the languages of the surrounding culture--Greek, Persian, Spanish, Arabic, French, German, and English. We will see how core Jewish concepts and values shaped and were shabed by these geographic and lingustic processes.
Rabbi Andrew Ergas is the Executive Director of the Shames JCC. A frequent lecturer and writer on Israel and Diaspora relations, Jewish history and effective change management within organizational life, Rabbi Ergas is recognized as a leading speaker and educator in the Jewish community and beyond.
Free for Temple Beth Abraham Members. $10/person for guests. Donations joyfully accepted!
