Dr. Shira Billet will present "Imitatio Dei (Emulating God) in the Technological Age: Between Self-Limiting and Excess" on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 8:00 pm at Young Israel of New Rochelle, 1149 North Avenue, New Rochelle. The lecture, sponsored by the Women's Initiative for Jewish Studies, is free and open to women and men.
Shira Billet is a postdoctoral associate in Modern Jewish Thought at Yale University. She earned her doctorate in Religion from Princeton University in 2019, with a dissertation titled "The Philosopher as Witness: Hermann Cohen's Philosophers and the Trials of Wissenschaft des Judentums." Dr. Billet earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Princeton University in 2008.
Dr. Billet's research has been supported by the Leo Baeck Fellowship in Germany, the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University, and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. She was a David Hartman Center Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America from 2017-2019 and is currently a Faculty Fellow at Hartman.
