This Statement of Civility, which was initially released on Friday, January 20, 2012 in The Jewish Week, and which has since been revised with additional signatories, was the first acomplishment of the Westchester Jewish Council's "Building Bridges for Israel" initiative which began in the summer of 2011. The purpose of this initiative was to bring the community together, irrespective of our religious backgrounds or political leanings, to stand in solidarity with Israel by focusing on what unites us rather than on what divides us. One of the initiative's goals is to celebrate within Westchester all that Israel has to offer as our Jewish homeland -- a land of richness of Jewish history, religion, peoplehood, and culture.
The Statement on the ASA boycott of Israeli universities was approved by the Westchester Jewish Council Board of Directors on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Please feel free to share this as you see fit.
